(note: sorry this is being published so early - I have to go to the airport to pick up my sweet hubby!)
Welcome to this month's What's On Your Wall Wednesday!
This fun event allows you to showcase your Wallscapes...
Wallnettes (nope that's not a new kind of nut - it's a Wall Vignette) lol....and anything that "hangs" or is party of a wall.
This week - I am showcasing my Family Room Fireplace/Mantle and the print which is hanging above it.
Our Family Room has been a project in the making for about two years. It was a room addition, and the building process was so tramatic - I think we were just happy to get it done. But, I couldn't take it anymore. I insisted we order new furniture, and even though I allowed Mr Grits the leadway on the design. (I know - it was kinda scary)
The room features a large, custom built bar - or pub as my husband so fondly calls it. (I will showcase that area next week for Met Monday) So the style inevidently leaned towards English.
On my very last "flea-venture" I took to England, I came across this dust covered carved mantle. I looked like the Beverly Hillbillies driving back across the English Channel (well, I didn't drive but I did take the Chunnel). I had this mantle strapped on top of my van.
We have always set up a "fireplace" no matter where we went. This mantle has been in my bedroom, in a sitting room, in a dining room - and now it resides in the our Family Room.
We used a sheet of faux-brick paneling to create a brick surround, and with the fireplace screen in front - it has fooled a lot of people.
I love the scenery print hanging above. It could be scenery from anywhere in the world, but it sure does remind me of the rolling hillsides in England.
The top of the mantle is decorated with ivy topiaries, candles, old leather-bound books and a pair of English Staffordshire dogs.
That's my Fireplace Wallnette for this week. I hope you enjoyed it.
So? What's On Your Wall?

Yes, you fooled me with that "fireplace." I love antique mantels, but I've never been able to figure out a good way to use them with a real fireplace. Building codes are so strict these days, and the older mantels are just too small for the new fireboxes and would put the wood too close to the firebox to meet code. Your idea is very clever.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting.
Yup, ya got me too - I never woulda guessed that fireplace wasn't real. Love the pic over the mantle. Btw, how DO you get a mantle home from England??
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty & yep, you got me too! ☺ Diane
ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous fireplace Barb and I would have never guessed either. BTW, love your Staffordshire Caveliers. I have a pair too AND the real Cavelier.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting this party. I did a tribute to a special friend and I hope you visit.

ReplyDeleteI love the mantel. The picture above it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes you got me on your fireplace but you have given me a ideal on where to put one in my home.
Thanks for sharing
Shirley
Check out my pink high heal.
Love the "trick" fireplace. Now, I know, there's no reason to live without a fireplace.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a faux fireplace too! Yours is much prettier than mine was though.
ReplyDeleteThis is looking so similar to one I drug around for years from house to house! I finally gave it back to my parents to sell in their antiques store.....along with other pieces from my grandmother's house. I just got tired of them all, they were oak and VERY heavy! Hubby was tired! LOL! I did the same with the making it "look" like a real fireplace was there. Love those curtains!
ReplyDeleteBarb, I'm sending a little message through your comments to Sandy at Copper n Things. I think her comments are disabled. This is her very first blog post!! Sandy, I hope you see this. :)

ReplyDeleteBarb,
ReplyDeleteI love your wallnette. I had planned on participating today but forgot that I had already posted my family room walls last time. So I didn't have any new photos to show this week. Boo hoo!! I better get better prepared for next time. When is next time?
Kim
