What Magazine Reveals Your Style the Most?

If I had to choose two publications which portrayed
the essence of personal my style, there would be two.

Like many design enthusiasts, I love catalogs and
magazines and coffee table books, and well...
anything about design!

I have my favorites, that's for sure.

One is a popular magazine, and I'm sure will come
as no surprise to anyone...

The other is not so much a magazine, but a catalog.

Interesting, I save my Ballard catalogs just as I do
my Southern Living magazines.

These two publications are both different in elements
of style, yet have similar characteristics at the same time.
The one characteristic they have in common is...
Timeless Designs.

With Southern Living.... my love of Traditional style
is portrayed in true "Southern" style.

Classic Southern colors, antiques, elegance and
warm and inviting style.

The reason I am such a Ballard fan is its
unique design features ....
When you see something that is distinctly Ballard...
you know it immediately.

To me, Ballard encompasses a touch of Traditional but
with an acknowledgment to Urban Flair.

So is there a particular magazine or catalog that
embodies your style?

I'd love to hear what it is and why.

Big changes happened last week in The Grits House.

I have taken pictures of what it looks like now.
"OMG" is the best way to describe it.
All the furniture pushed to the center, every surface
covered with something....
utter CHAOS!
(why did I have the WHOLE house painted
instead of one room at a time? aaagh)

But I am loving it so far and can't wait to share it
with you in the coming days.

Have a beautiful and inspiring week everyone!

  1. First of all, i am anxiously awaiting seeing all of your transformations...

i can honestly say that there are so many magazines that I love..If I had to chose just two, it would be Veranda and Traditional Home. Now, my all time favorite is (no longer in publication) Southern Accents. I sooo miss that magazine. Southern Living would be my third as it not only has great decorating features, but the recipes are great and wonderful travel features too..a great all around magazine...

  2. Oh Barb, I can't wait to see your new rooms and what all you do. I know it will be fabulous.

Well, I guess I would have to go with Traditional Home. Not too much on magazine, mostly books.

    Hugs, Marty

  3. Can't wait to see it all, Barb! I love my Ballards catalog, too, and look through it a few times before I recycle it. My favorite magazines though are Romantic Homes, Romantic Country and Creating Vintage Charm. I get the first two via subscription and I buy the Creating Vintage Charm when it is ready to order. I've gone through lots of magazines over the years, though!

  4. I have had tons of subscriptions over the past hundred years, seemed to have narrowed it down to Romantic Homes and Romantic Living coming to my door.... Of course, I gather more while shopping if the cover peaks my interest. I save them all too...how scary is that? xoso Sandy

  5. Can't wait to see your house, Barb! I do love Southern Living...a Southern woamn's essential magazine! It has changed, though, and every time I thin I won't renew, I'll be darned if they don't have some great issues! Love my Ballard and PB catalogs...but my fav was the now defunct Pierre Deux! Sniff! Still have some of their catalogs! Have a great week!...hugs...Debbie

  6. Bravo Miss Barb!
This is a great post and it is so refreshing to see elegant, traditional style.

I am a traditional style girl myself, with a little kick.

I too love Southern Living, but I also love Traditional Home.

I always enjoyed Southern Accents too- even though it was out of my reach- until it was discontinued.

I am off to order a Ballard's catalog.
    What a great idea.!

    Thanks Barb-

  7. I keep Ballard Designs catalogs also Barb.

My favorite would be Southern Accents. Even though it is no more, I have kept several copies. That magazine and Traditional Home are two that would influence my style most.

Looking forward to seeing your transformations.
