Drat You Weatherman!

Last year, just before Hurricane Irene I finally purchased
something which I had been eying for a while.

One of these gazebos.
My son and my daughter-in-law and I spent a very rainy
and hot Sunday afternoon assembling it.

Now, before I tell you "the rest of the story,"
I need you to understand that I spent quite a while using
one of these...

I was delighted to find it would fit in the back area of the deck
where I envisioned it, which is almost a "nook" surrounded by
 three walls of the house.

Much to my dismay - and only when we had assembled it
and hauled it up 12 steps onto the deck did we discover
it was about 1/2" too large.
I did not take into consideration the gutters.
(I hear you snickering)  :-{

Well, maybe it was meant to be.
Because less than a week later we were dealing with
Hurricane Irene.

So now that Spring is here and well into its prime,
and I am hosting Easter dinner this year -
its more than time to get the deck ready.

I won't embarrass myself into showing you what it
looks like currently. I have too much pride.  :)

But, I had visions of this....

and this...

And while I don't have the view, far from it - I was hoping I could create a place almost as calming as this...

or maybe something like this...

Okay, that's really pushing it.  LOL

My sweet Hubby, my Son and my Ex
(yes, my Ex. We are good friends)
figured out a way of attaching the roof part of the gazebo
to the roof of the house.  It's not so bad actually.

I bought a new outdoor rug, new cushions, and
me and the boys were going first thing tomorrow morning
to Lowe's to get a truck load of plants.

But, guess what Mr. Weatherman, aka
"Mr. Spoil Your Plans" has predicted?

An 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Sigh.

Drat You Weatherman.

I guess its laundry.

But, on a good note I did buy the boys this...

I was gonna wait and give it to them Easter weekend,
but a rainy day inside is just perfect for this.
Its such a sweet and funny movie.

Hope you have a Sunnier and Brighter Weekend than I will.

Blessings, Barb

  2. I am on the opposite side of the weather deal. This is going down as the fifth driest March in Colorado in over 100 years. I wish we had some rain right about now (or even snow- which I hate lol). Enjoy your weekend in!

  4. 100 years??? I'm so sorry. I should not complain about something that is so good. It really will be a blessing in many ways b/c it will wash away this overload of pollen we have had. Maybe everyone's allergies will clear up. I will pray you get some much needed rain soon.

  5. I want one of those on my patio- with all screens:) I wonder if they make one?

I had just finished weed spraying, sun was out bright and then BAM - one clap of thunder and 5 mins. later a heavy rain storm that lasted 3 hours.
We need the rain and its making the grass super duper green already, for which I am grateful.

Enjoy your dinner with family whenever ya'll get to have it.

  9. I love all the pictures you posted to tell your story!! Your backup plans made it "sunny" inside! Can't wait to see what you end up doing. We ourselves have a strong sturdy gazebo in the backyard which was alreardy there when we moved into our home 15 mo. ago. I still don't know what to do with it. The yard and bushes were unkept for two years prior and it needs a lot of TLC it's still sitting there unused :( I truly need Yard Wreckers to come and do something with my gazebo and backyard. Oh well. Have a great weekend!!

  10. You still have a couple of weeks to get it done. Be thankful for the time to get caught up in the house and maybe even a nap. Have every single detail planned for when the skies clear and you will be so excited when it is finished. My daughter's ex lives in a one room apartment in her back yard! He wakes her and their son up every morning and has coffee ready. He was there for the birth of her second child (not his) and cried like a baby. The baby's father left before she could spell b-a-b-y so the ex begged her to give the baby HIS name and that is what she did! Twisted, I tell you. Just plain twisted! But it works!

  13. Don't you hate it when you think something is gonna be perfect and it off by one flipping HALF INCH? Didn't you just want to kick something?;>) I'm glad you figured out a way to attach it. It is going to be beautiful and, have no fear, the sun will eventually shine again! xo Diana
