Lazy Sunday Projects are the best!
Especially when they are super
easy and the clean up afterwards
does not turn your
Lazy Sunday Project into a
“Oh my heavens, why did I ever start
this? Look at the mess I have made!”
kind of project. But, not this one!
I got the idea for this from a lamp I saw
at Jan du Luc’s French store in
Carmel by the Sea, that I shared with you
last week.
I knew I could easily replicate the ruffle
and I knew the exact lamp I wanted to use
for this copy-kat project.
for this copy-kat project.
Here is the lamp in my guest bath…
… a pretty blue base with a plain
linen shade.
You guys know how much I love this stuff…
Well, it occurred to me that if I used a
length of this jute twine…
length of this jute twine…
– and did some basic sewing with a large
plastic sewing needle…
I could gather this plain burlap ribbon
until I had a few yards of ruffled burlap.
You can make it as thick as you want, from
a tight ruffle to barely ruffled, like the sample
lamp at the French shop.
It all depends on how tight you gather the
burlap ribbin on the jute cording.
Once you have your ruffle,
decide on the placement…
I attached my ruffle with a hot glue gun.
After a few minor skin burns,
I ended up with this –
I decided to add a little extra bling to the
shade with some shells and sea glass to go
I think next time I am at the fabric store
I will pick up some gross-grain ribbon in
the same blue color as the sea glass,
and add it to the top rim of the shade.
I love how the burlap ruffle adds a rustic
touch that works well with the linen fabric.
I can see where this ruffled burlap could be
used on any number of projects.
(I am thinking about adding it to the
edge of some curtain panels.)
🙂
A small remnant of burlap ribbon and a shell
decorate a white, fluffy hand towel.

Might I add, these aren’t just any shells.
They are shells gathered about 18 years
ago from Sanibel Island, Florida –
during a vacation we took just prior to
The Hubbs leaving for a 6-month
during a vacation we took just prior to
The Hubbs leaving for a 6-month
deployment. I brought back a suitcase
full of shells. 🙂
I love the “After!”
Do you have some lamps or projects
that could use some burlap ruffle?
I’d love to see your ideas.
Later this week, I will be sharing some
new additions to my online shop
I have some unique Euro treasures, some
thrifty treasures and a few more
Vintage-style goodies, too.

I am still trying to
work out some bugs with Paypal.)

What a great idea! That burlap ruffle adds so much to the lamp. Adding your own shells is a wonderful accent as well. What a creative way to display your treasures.
