Today is July 1st, and in exactly 15 more days I will be the Big 5-Ohhhhhhhhh!
But, you know what – I am really okay with it.
I am nowhere near as upset over the big 5-0 as I was the big 4-0!
In fact, I am going to embrace it and welcome it and toast it in with a glass of wine.
Or three. 😀
With maturity comes a certain knowledge and understanding about life that I wish I had
at 20, 30, and even 40.
For example, I have avoided wearing “stripes” most of my adult life because it would “make me look fatter.”
Yea, well so does butter and biscuits but I still ate those. haha
I have always had an admiration for fashion which had a nautical flair.
My sweet friend, Kathysue with Good Life of Design always has a cheery nautical
outfit or two in her closet. I love her style.
This year, I have added a few more pairs of white capris and a few striped shirts.
Here are a few outfits which I found on Pinterest that caught my “nautical style” eye.
1) Casual Nautical
I love the easy-wearing and casual khaki shorts paired with the layered shirts and khaki-colored sandals.
I could see this with a cute white baseball cap and this would be the perfect stroll around town outfit.
2) Stripes!
Here’s a perfect example of those dreaded horizontal stripes most women refuse to wear.
I say – embrace the stripes! You only live once!
3) Anchors Away!
I adore the sparkly tank with the anchor. And the subtle touches of gold in the
jewelry and purse tie it all together.
4) Summer Scarves!
If the idea of wearing stripes on your body is too off-putting, then another fashion forward way
to add a nautical look is with a striped purse. I simply love the anchor sandals, don’t you?.
5) Stripes Two Ways!
Here is the perfect striped dress. Horizontal lines on the top, and slightly more vertical lines
on the lower half for us more (cough) wider hipped ladies. 🙂
6) Casual Contemporary
My body shape does not go well with the hip hugger style of shorts, but this outfit is the perfect
example of taking ordinary objects of clothing – adding just a few nautical touches and making a
seaworthy fashion statement.
7) It’s Not Always the Red, White & Blue!
Typically we think of variations of blue stripes and red anchors and white stars…
but I actually love this different combination of colors that still have a contemporary nautical feel.
The purse ties all of the colors together.
8) Long Stripes!
A fashion tip I have always used is to wear a slightly longer shirt that ends
around hip level.
This outfit is paired with some cute white capris and seashell sandals and is the
perfect casual comfy style.
Now – let’s check out some of my fave jewelry pieces that I found on etsy…
Stamped Anchor Necklace
Seashell Ring
Silver Starfish Necklace
And a beachy-isnpired bag or tote is always a perfect nautical accessory…
Blue and Tan Jute Chevron Bag
French Riviera Jute Tote
All of the outfits and Etsy jewelry can be found on my Summer Fashion Board on Pinterest.
Do you love to wear a nautical-inspired outfits during the Summer?
I love that this style is so classic and never goes out of style!
1) Add stripes in moderation.
Just a single article of clothing is generally all that is required.
Or, use striped accessories like a purse, scarf or jewelry to add a nautical.
2) Choose Basic Pieces to Get More Mileage
You don’t have to have a closet-fulll of shirts and dresses with stars and stripes and anchors.
White capris, solid navy tanks – standard wardrobe items can create the foundation for a fun nautical outfit.
3) Don’t over accessorize!
It doesn’t take much nautical-themed jewelry, for example, to be enough.
Some simple pieces with a big, striped bag will make a striking image in comparison to wearing a
jewelry store on your body.
4) Add in some fun polka dots!
Polka dots? But…isn’t nautical all about the stripes?
Sure it is. But if you detest stripes and/or want to add something different, a cute
dotted top with white capris and a nautical bag will also do the trick!
5) Change Up the Color!
Don’t get totally caught up in the whole red, white and blue color theme.
Switch it up with some turquoise and coral for example. Instead of silver
accessories, add some gold.
Most of all – be comfortable – because that is what the nautical theme is really all about.
Casual and seaside comfy!
I would love for you to pin this image to your fave Pinterest Board…

Cute outfits. Wish I was young enough to wear those shorts, but at 60, shorts no longer appear in my wardrobe. I have always loved stripes and wear them most often in shirts, which helps my small chest look a little larger. I just don’t wear them anywhere near my hips 🙂
