My oldest grandson starts school this Thursday.
And back to packing school lunches.
But, before we delved back into all of that –
The Hubbs and I decided to take one last trip with the boys,
and we went camping in the mountains.
Yes, camping.
Tents. Cots. Cookstove.
That kind of camping. 🙂
And considering we are the grandparents and not
as young as we used to be, I am amazed we made it back
in one piece.
Although we were slightly sore and maybe feeling
a little beat-up.
We can also say we eat waaaay too many s’mores than two adults should.
😀
Best part is…we found out we were camping beside the sweetest
family (formerly military, too) who used to live about 20 mins
from where we live now. Talk about a small world!
{Can’t wait to see you again hopefully soon, Chris!} 🙂
One of the items I picked up for the boy’s to snack on were
Del Monte Fruit Squeezers and Fruit Cups.
They made the perfect snack for the over 7-hour drive to
get there and back, and was great for after tubing
in chilly mountain waters. Plus, they fit into my backpack for our
hike to see a beautiful waterfall.
I fixed Asiago Cheese-Tomato and Baby Spinach Waffle Sandwiches to go with the fruit snacks.
What??? You don’t carry a waffle iron on your camping trips?
😀
We wanted this trip to be a memorable weekend.
The ultimate camping trip before they buckled down to schedules
and early morning wake-up calls and going to bed early – whether
they want to or not.
A trip with Grandpa and Grammy where the memories
would last a lifetime.
It was also the same kind of camping trip we
took their Dad on prior to him returning to school each year.
My sweet oldest grandson, Mr C, is entering the 3rd grade and is starting
at a new school this year.
He doesn’t quite grasp that his old friends won’t be there from
the previous three years.
I have my same concerns for him that I had for my son when
we had to make military moves every 2-3 years,
and begin the year at a new school.
I want his teachers and his classmates to know and see the
sweet child that he is.
The loving, caring and always-wanting-to-please little boy who
has a huge heart and a goofy smile.
I want him to wake up each morning and look forward
to the day, and look forward to the next adventure
he has in store.
I pray he has a teacher who will understand his ADHD,
and have the patience and knowledge needed to help keep
him focused.
I want all of this and more.
But, most of all – I want him to jump off the bus,
run into the house,
and when I am handing him his after-school snack and ask …
“How was your day?”
I want him to smile and say simply…
“It was great!“
That’s all I ask.
