We eat at Waffle House for one meal on Christmas Day to remember my mother in law.

Pat that is so sweet. We LOVE the “Waffie House” as my grandson calls it. 🙂

We always bake a Norwegian cookie called Krumkake. It is our family’s favorite. My Grandmother made them, then my mother, who taught us daughters how to make them–they are made from a batter on a Krumkake iron. I have such wonderful memories making them with my mother and my younger sister. Now, my husband and I make them for all our family and neighbors and friends. It is one of my best memories ever…

Our family tradition consists of putting the Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving. On Christmas Eve we go to my parents’ home, eat, enjoy each other’s company, go to mass together, go back to my parents’, eat again, and visit some more. I wouldn’t trade it for anything! 🙂

wow, those cookies look good! When I lived with my parents, and for awhile after I was married, we attended midnight church services on Christmas eve. I loved the quiet holy moment when lights were turned out and everyone held a glowing candle as we sang Silent Night.

We always attend Merry Tuba Christmas on Christmas Eve at noon in Thanksgiving Square, downtown Dallas, TX. Over 100 tubas play Christmas carols and folks sing along. Google Tuba Christmas to see if there is one close to you!

Every year for the past 30 plus years my two friends and I get together with our kids or now our grandkids and decorate Gingerbread Houses. I think in all these years I’ve only missed one year. We rotate houses and all bring LOTS of candy and Ornamental Frosting. We put the candy in cupcake tins and start decorating. Now my grandkids look forward to this special day, and ask me when we are going to decorate our houses. In the first years we all made our gingerbread from scratch. Now, not so much! We buy our houses at the store and put them together and decorate. So much less pressure.

Our children are grown and gone from home, but I love getting together with the entire family (9 children and their spouses, plus 19 grandchildren) at Christmas for a simple meal of soup, sandwiches, salads and deserts, visiting, and gifts for all. Last year the grandchildren put on a talent show for us. Great fun!

That tuba concert sounds like a lot of fun Ann! Tradition around here is chili on Christmas Eve. I’ve been making chili since my husband and I got married back in 1986. Many times we had a house full. Now it’s just us but it’s still special. I love your shop and signed up for the newsletter so I don’t miss all the goodies. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

After a day of last minute rushing around then comes a quiet evening of family and communion. The one thing I do every year is after everyone is sleeping I sit and enjoy the tree and home and take one last step outside to wish mom and dad a Merry Christmas. It is amazing g how every year it is so still and quiet! Merry Christmas!

The tradition of Christmas cookies.
View CommentMom is not here anymore, but it was tradition to go to her house on Christmas Day.
She would open the door with her Christmas earrings and apron on over a pretty dress, with a big ceramic Christmas Tree plate of cookies on her table. She would have the ham in the oven, and her house smelled soooooooo good.
I now have her ceramic Christmas Tree plate and will cherish it forever.
I will put it out on Christmas with a load of cookies in her honor. 🙂

I have so many Christmas traditions, it’s hard to choose just one. After all, it’s my favorite time of year! I guess the one that I like the most, because it means the most, is a tradition we started with our son when he was little.
We have a manger scene that we set out every year. Long ago, I cut straw into pieces about 4″ long and put them in a bag next to the manger. During the whole Christmas season, we sneak around doing extra good deeds for one another. We may sneak in and make someone’s bed before they do, or dry the dishes without being asked. Any number of things like that. When you do a good deed, you put a straw in the manger. The goal is to have as much straw (good deeds) in the manger by Christmas so Baby Jesus is not cold on Christmas Eve. When you do a good deed, you don’t tell anyone. This is to teach the children that you do things for others without expecting recognition for it.
Now our son is nearly 30 years old and my husband and I are empty nesters. We still do this tradition each year, just my husband and I. We now have our first Grandchild, who is 19 months old, and I plan on sharing this tradition with him, as well, when he is old enough. Merry Christmas!

I just like being around everyone and watching the gift opening during both the regular presents and white elephant exchange because peoples’ reactions are priceless!

We have a book of short stories that my grandmother put together. Every evening in December we read. There is a scripture, carol, and a Christmas story. We love doing this as we sit around the tree. Towards the end there are even a couple stories from when my grandmother was young.

Every year at Christmas I hang Christmas balls on ribbon from the ceiling in my living room. It’s one of the most festive things we do. My Mom did it years ago for several years. She is gone now…but I still carry on that tradition. It’s beautiful.
