As part of my current mini kitchen remodel,
we will be putting up some open shelving.
I particularly want some Barn Wood Shelves, and
I love these by Kristi at Chatfield Court.
I asked her to stop by and share with us how
she and her husband created these.
I think you will love these, too.
DIY Industrial Barn Wood Shelves
Hi, my name is Kristi and I blog at Chatfield Court
where I share the DIY and home improvement
adventures my husband and I go through while
we fix up our 1950’s brick ranch.
I’m honored to be here to guest post at
The Everyday Home.
The love of DIY for me is to come up with
new ideas for projects and to make them work out.
Sometimes everything goes my way and it turns out
great and sometimes it turns into a huge fail.
Our barn wood shelf project was one of my successes
and was actually pretty easy to do.
We just recently finished a major makeover of one
of our guest bedrooms. Our projects included a
wood plank wall, new crown molding, new paint
on all the trim, doors and walls, construction of a
wheeled platform bed and the addition of barn
wood shelves. During the redo I was working on
ideas to fill the one large, blank wall over the bed
and when I spotted this beautiful old barn wood at
the flea market, my decision was made.
The next task was to figure out how to hang the
shelves so after trolling the plumbing department
in Home Depot we found our brackets.
They were made up of 6 inch black pipe nipples
with a cap on each end. The capped nipple was then
attached to a floor flange on the wall.
While attaching them to the wall we were careful
to hit a stud in each flange so that we didn’t
have old barn wood shelves falling on our guests
in the middle of the night. They might not like that.
😉
Once the “brackets” were up I simply placed the
barn wood on top, which we cut in half to make two
shelves. That’s it! Really easy and they ended up
costing us about $45, $10 for the wood and
$35 for the plumbing parts. I’m really loving how
they turned out and want barn wood in
every room now. 😉
I want to thank Barb and all of her awesome readers
