breakfast area – (noun) a place for light meals (usually near a kitchen); “the breakfast nook had a built in table and seats”
Do you have a Breakfast Room? I am lucky that the floor plan of our home allowed me to have both a Formal Dining Room and a Breakfast Room. The definition above of “breakfast area” is a space where “light meals” are served. I find this slightly ironic….because here in The House of Grits…with my busy schedule – almost all of our meals are “light” these days. Not just breakfast.
But, that said – I love this area of my home. If you are new to my blog….you can see a glimpse of my Breakfast Room and Hutch Project here.
Here’s breaking news! I am getting ready to have my RED cabinets painted WHITE.
(Did I just hear a mass of gasps from all of you red lovers?) 🙂
Don’t get me wrong, I love my red cabinets and always will. But, I am ready for something a little lighter and brighter. My interior kitchen was made darker than I expected when the cabinets were painted red. Also, my husband just gifted me with a pretty, new gazebo with an awning top to place on the back deck. The gazebo will be a lovely addition to our home, and I can’t wait to get it assembled, but I also know it will make the kitchen appear even darker. So….out with the red and in with the white.
I have also decided to paint my black table and chairs and hutch white, too. I am actually thinking of a mixture of red and white for the T-back chairs. But, I am still throwing around some mental ideas.
While the painter is here….he might as well go ahead and paint the walls, too. Haha
I see a khaki color with an undertone of green. Some of you might be saying…..nope, nope its too neutral sounding.

Not at all….I see it as a blank space for one of my cherished collections….my blue and white Staffordshire. It is currently in my Morning Room….but that room is going to undergo a change too. Lots of projects in The House of Grits. Maybe I will finish before I drag out my Christmas boxes. LOL
Here are a few inspiration pics from my “Breakfast Room” file. My fave is the very last one….I think you will understand why. 🙂
Love these upholstered chairs and the lantern-style light fixture. I also love the mix of painted chairs and wood stain table. hmmm….
More painted chairs and a wood stained tabletop. I think this combination prevents the space from becoming overly formal.
Love these rattan chairs and the checkerboard seats. This is a beautiful trestle table.
I love a built-in Banquet.
Love the crisp white. I am very much inspired (and invigorated!) by this pic.
and finally….
My dream “breakfast room.” We can all dream, can’t we? 🙂
This setting has been prepared for a dinner party (well, unless the Breakfast Menu includes a Breakfast Wine. haha)
Isn’t this space to die for? Can’t you imagine what croissants and cappuccino’s would be like within this setting. If I had this to look forward to, I would drink wine for breakfast, too. 😉
Wish me luck and a re-design free of stress and turmoil…..Barb

Oooh…that would look lovely, Barb! And I’ll take that last photo, too! Is it in France? Or Napa? I’ll take it in either case! lol Happy week!…hugs…Debbie

Beautiful pics – plus I love white. And, yes, I have a breakfast room – it’s really just my kitchen but it fits the definition: light meals served at the table. 🙂

How funny I was just explaining what a breakfast room was to my husband last night! We have one off the kitchen but everyone calls it the tv room, even though we have another one of those too. Love your pictures – good luck with the projects.

Barb, I’ve had a house full of company and havn’t been making the rounds. I just had posts scheduled. I can’t wait to see your kitchen all white. I think it will be stunning. I am with you about a neutral background. I find that I can put anything in my house and it works. I love all of your pics, gorgeous rooms and the gazebo will be fabulous. Hugs, Marty
