I used to have a sign in my home that read…
“Back Door Friends Are Best.”
I couldn’t agree more. I have a secret confession.
Whenever the door bell rings unexpectedly,
I almost cringe.
🙂
I am NOT a fan of unannounced guests.
A while back, I did a post about
“Making an Entrance.”
Even though I think the entrance of your home is
important in setting the stage, I also feel the
backdoor, or back entrance is just as important.
Generally, your back door leads to your garden or
a back porch. Mine leads to a back deck
which I will share with you in a week or so.
Until then, I found these wonderful inspirational
pics on (where else) Pinterest.
What does your back door say about your home?
I love this catch-all coat rack.
Every back door needs a place to throw shoes and coats.
This back door is also a pass-through to the laundry room.
But what a sunny, lovely space this is.
How perfect is this custom built-in space for a large, busy family?
Even a simple bench with baskets tucked underneath
becomes a clever catch-all and storage unit.
How beautiful is this brick floor?
And who wouldn’t want this extra storage space?
On a slightly different note, don’t you just love the idea
of having a small herb garden just out your back door?
I have a few herb plants which I use the most, such as my chives.
I love the idea of adding unique artwork at the back door.
These are two pictures which I would consider my
idyllic “back doors”…
I don’t know that I have ever seen a prettier door.
In fact, every single detail about this space makes
my heart flutter just a bit.
And when I saw this pic, my first thoughts were…
YES, please. 🙂
So many design details I could go on and on.
Have you given much thought to your own back door?
Is your back door used more than your front door?
Back door friends are best…because they know you
by name. 🙂
Hope you are having a blessed weekend, Barb

We don’t have a back door that guests can get to, it’s behind the fence in the back of the house. So only the front, but I do try to make that welcoming. I love all of your inspiration pics. Gorgeous. I would love any one of them. Hugs, Marty

With this house it is the first time we have not had an accessible back door. I don’t mind though- I would rather have people come into a neat front door foyer than into what is usually a messy back door disaster of some sort! I LOVE your inspiration pictures though! xo Diana

Oh, I wish I had a back door.. we live in an old house and the only door we have is to my kitchen..YUCK! I’ve always tried to make an area for coats, keys and shoes, but my home is little and it’s sometimes hard to make it all fit.. Love this post and my heart yearns for one of those back door entries!!

Beautiful post and images, Barb.
One our back doors leads to J’s lodge. That is the one on the patio. I have a post up right now with a few of the patio pictures. The other back door is from the back porch. It leads to the hearth room and another leads to the master bedroom, both from the back porch.

Years ago..I wanted to buy a house just for its incredible back door/mudroom…the room was the size of a small bedroom…but alas, I really do not have a back door :(…The doors that are accessible on the ground floor flow into a room…all french doors leading to a room…weird I know…now to get to the “back door” of my main floor, you would need a 12 foot ladder!
I love, love all the “back door” rooms…especially the one that lead to that gorgeous garden with the “half door”….oh, one day…haven’t given up yet!
So my guest will have to be satisfied with the front door…invited or not!…

Thanks for sharing these wonderful back door spaces. Unfortunately I have sliders to a pool as one back door and the entrance through the gargage into a pass through laundry room with no windows. Ugh! I still like to dream though!

Barb love all the back doors shown here! My home is set up to only enter through the front door. My back door is in the garage or the backyard where there is no entrance from the front, so I don’t have an official back door. I love people to drop in and If you came by you would be a back door friend walking through my front door, Love you,

Barb, I’m loving the inspiration photos, too. Even though, we actually have 3 back doors, 2 are behind the fence and one opens to the garage. I can’t wait to see what you do for your back entrance. Following you on Linky, hope you follow back.

I thought I was alone. Who could have known that you too cringe when the doorbell rings. I do the same thing. People we know usually come either to the back door or through the garage. What a great post! It did make me rethink what’s on the screened porch by my back door.
